Bolt-in guide: your phone → LightningArrows Voice
Updated from a field-proven bolt-in path (Cisco 8851-class MPP, registered SIP, DID, optional number forward, custom wallpaper). Identifiers below are placeholders only.
Before you start
| Need | Notes |
|---|---|
| Multiplatform / SIP phone | Cisco MPP/3PCC (model list), Grandstream, Yealink, Poly, etc. Enterprise-only 78xx/88xx: Enterprise → MPP · E2M field path. |
| Ethernet | PoE switch or power brick + network |
| Same LAN as a computer | To open the phone web UI once |
| LightningArrows Voice order | Desk Voice $7.50/mo |
Step 1 — Network the phone
- Plug SW/Network into your router or switch.
- Wait for boot.
- On the phone menus, find IPv4 (or check your router’s client list).
- From a PC/Mac on the same network open
https://PHONE_IP(accept the cert).
Recommended static shape (adjust to your LAN):
IP: 192.168.x.y
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.x.1
DNS: 192.168.x.1 (optional public backup)
DHCP + a reservation for the handset MAC is fine if you prefer not to set static on the phone.
Step 2 — Confirm multiplatform firmware
| Status line | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Product name contains 3PCC / multiplatform | Ready for SIP bolt-in |
| Enterprise-only / asks for migration license | Run E2M first — field path |
Do not fight SIP registration on enterprise-only loads. Unlock or swap the set.
Step 3 — Order Voice
- Open LightningArrows Voice.
- Add Desk Voice ($7.50/mo ≈ $0.25/day).
- Optional: enter model and MAC in the cart fields (helps provision).
- Add DID / trunk / PayG if you need PSTN now.
- Checkout (same Snipcart flow as cloud).
Step 4 — Apply credentials (two ways)
A) Three fields (universal SIP)
In Ext 1 / Account 1:
| Field | Paste from our welcome email / panel |
|---|---|
| Proxy / Server | YOUR_PBX_HOST — SIP registrar hostname or IP we issue. Not a web page URL. |
| User / Auth ID | your extension user |
| Password | your SIP password |
Also set Register = Yes, Line Enable = Yes. Save → reboot if asked.
B) Provision URL (Cisco MPP preferred)
Profile / Provisioning rule (HTTPS config download, separate from SIP Proxy):
https://YOUR_PROVISION_HOST/la-voice-prov/<your-token>/phone.xml
Exact URL is issued after order — do not invent one.
Do not paste this URL into the Proxy field.
Step 5 — Confirm registration
Phone Status should show the line as Registered.
| Symptom | Try |
|---|---|
| Not registered | Password, proxy host, Ext number, reboot |
| Wrong time / TLS issues | NTP / date-time; prefer UDP 5060 for simple home setups unless we specify TLS |
| Registered then drops | NAT timers; we tune on the PBX/SBC side for Voice customers |
Step 6 — Numbers: DID, port, or Google Voice forward
- Submit service address for emergency calling when we request it.
- Choose one:
- New DID on the order, or
- Port an existing number, or
- Forward from Google Voice / cell to your DID while testing
Google Voice specifically
| Do | Don’t |
|---|---|
| Forward GV → your Voice DID | Expect GV to be a SIP server for Cisco |
| Complete GV’s SMS verification (code lands on the DID path) | Use random third-party “GV SIP” hacks |
| Port later if you want GV to go away |
Step 7 — Optional: wallpaper (stop the white screen)
On Cisco 8851-class MPP:
| Setting | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Phone Background | Download Picture |
| Screen Saver Type | Download Picture (not Logo — Logo is a small icon) |
| Picture Download URL | HTTPS URL to an 800×480 JPEG |
| Screen Saver Enable | Yes |
Ops notes from the field
- One download URL drives both background and screensaver.
- Host must return
image/jpeg(or png) — wrong MIME breaks the download. - After replacing the file, force a re-download: wait for screensaver refresh, trigger resync, or power-cycle.
- Optional: rotate images server-side under a stable HTTPS filename.
Step 8 — Test
- Call the DID from a mobile.
- Place an outbound call to your mobile.
- Leave a 2-minute call up (NAT/session timers).
- Optional: second phone / softphone on Office plan.
- Optional: confirm wallpaper Picture Download Status = Succeeded on the phone status page.
Troubleshooting (quick)
| Symptom | Try |
|---|---|
| No IP | Cable, PoE, DHCP pool full |
| Web UI won’t open | Same LAN? HTTPS + accept cert |
| “Provide migration license” | E2M field path |
| Not registered | Creds, proxy host (not website URL), reboot, correct Ext |
| Registered, no audio | Provider path / firewall; open a ticket with us |
| One-way audio | Often NAT; we fix on the SBC side for Voice customers |
| Inbound 486 / busy on new DID | Account / trunk tier must allow inbound voice |
| Wallpaper blank / old | Background + screensaver both Download Picture; HTTPS MIME; refresh/reboot |
| Resync fails “No server name” | Profile Rule must be a full https://… URL, not a bare filename |
