Old school phones · new SIP life
Polycom OBi200 & analog ATAs — home and office on LightningArrows Voice

Same idea as our Cisco surplus path: keep the handset you already own. An OBi200 (or similar ATA) turns a normal phone into a LightningArrows SIP seat — replace old Google Voice, keep the kitchen cordless. Field-proven 2026 — Working Test 100%.

OBi200 & analog ATAs on LightningArrows Voice

Engage. Execute. Deploy. — surplus analog telephone adapters (ATAs) deserve a second life the same way surplus Cisco MPP phones do.

LightningArrows Voice is standard SIP. That means:

  1. The ATA speaks SIP to our PBX (not a closed Google-only cloud).
  2. Your normal phone plugs into the ATA with a plain RJ11 cord.
  3. You order a Desk or Office seat — same cart as Cisco.
  4. Optional Pay as you go credit + PSTN / DID for outside calling at our competitive rates.

Field example (2026) — Working Test 100%: Polycom OBi200 — historically popular for “old school Google Voice.” Google’s consumer OBiTALK path is gone. We ran the full path end-to-end: factory-style setup → SP1 SIP to LightningArrows → extension registered → inbound ring + audio from the PBX → house analog handset. Status: Working Test 100%.

Why this page exists

Audience What you get
Home Kitchen / bedroom cordless on LA Voice — Vonage/GV replacement pattern
Office Lobby / warehouse analog set next to Cisco desks on the same PBX
Surplus buyers OBi200 / OBi202 / similar boxes often sit unused after GV — bolt them in

We document Cisco 6800 / 7800 / 8800 multiplatform sets here. This page is the analog ATA twin.

What an ATA does (one picture)

Normal phone (cordless base, desk set, etc.)
        │ RJ11
   OBi200 / ATA
        │ Ethernet
   Your router / LAN
        │ SIP (UDP 5060)
   LightningArrows Voice (cloud PBX)
        │
Internal extensions · optional DID / outbound trunk

You keep the handset. The ATA is the “IP phone” part — just like MPP firmware is the IP part of an old Cisco.

Hardware we mean

Device Notes
Polycom OBi200 1 FXS · Working Test 100% (2026-08-01) · web admin after DHCP
OBi202 / similar Obihai/Poly ATA Same idea — multi-port FXS if present
Other SIP ATAs Grandstream HT, Cisco SPA, etc. — same SIP fields, different menu names

Not required: OBiTALK cloud, Google Voice, or a softphone app for the house phone.

Working Test 100% (field-proven · 2026-08-01)

Status: Working Test 100%. This is not a paper diagram — it is the path we verified on a live Polycom OBi200 with a normal analog phone on LightningArrows Voice.

Layer Field result
Hardware OBi200 · PHONE port → analog handset · Ethernet LAN
Was Old school Google Voice / OBiTALK-era programming
Now SP1 = SIP to LightningArrows PBX (standard SIP seat)
Register Extension registered · contact Avail on the PBX
PBX test Originate to the ATA → Ringing → Answer/Up · audio path confirmed
Intercom pattern Same PBX as Cisco desk seats (extension-to-extension)
Outside calling Same Desk / Office cart path · optional PSTN / DID / PayG at published rates

What we proved

[OK] ATA on LAN + web admin
[OK] Google Voice / SP2 disabled (or not used)
[OK] SP1 SIP proxy + auth → LightningArrows Voice
[OK] PHONE PrimaryLine = SP1 Service
[OK] Reboot → SIP register
[OK] PBX originate → house phone rings · audio works

Copy this path

Same ordered steps as below. Order a seat, use your welcome-email SIP host/user/password (not a marketing URL), then test dials from the handset.

From handset Expect
Off-hook Dial tone from LA
Echo / test extension (welcome pack) Hear yourself
Desk extension Rings your Cisco (or other SIP seat)
10-digit US (with PSTN / PayG) Outside via LA trunk

Engage. Execute. Deploy. — surplus ATA + LightningArrows Voice = home and office ready.

Field path (ordered)

[1] Power + Ethernet ATA on your LAN (DHCP or reservation)
[2] Find the IP Router client list · MAC sticker · or ask support
[3] Web admin URL http://ATA_IP/ (often admin / admin after factory reset)
[4] Disable Google Voice SP2 / GV service → Enable = No (if still present)
[5] Order Desk Voice $7.50/mo ≈ $0.25/day → /cloud-servers/voice#order
[6] SP1 / ITSP = SIP Proxy + user/pass from your welcome email
[7] PHONE PrimaryLine = SP1 Handset uses LightningArrows, not GV
[8] Status = Registered Line registered to LA PBX
[9] Optional PSTN / PayG DID + outbound · or prepaid credit at published rates
[10] Test calls Echo / intercom desk / outside number

Google Voice alone does not complete step 8 for modern setups. Use LightningArrows SIP as the registrar.

SIP values (shape — use your seat from checkout)

After you order Desk Voice or Office Voice, your welcome email has live credentials. Map them like this on the OBi (names vary slightly by firmware):

OBi / ATA field LightningArrows value
Proxy / Outbound proxy Host we issue (SIP registrar — not a https:// web URL)
Registrar Same host (or blank = use proxy)
Port 5060 UDP (unless we issue TLS/TCP differently)
Auth user / Auth ID Your extension / SIP user (example shape: 101)
Password Your SIP password
Register Yes
Preferred codec G.711u (PCMU) first; G.722 if offered
Primary line (PHONE) SP1 / Service Provider 1

Important: Do not put the marketing website (lightningarrows.com through Cloudflare orange-cloud) as the SIP proxy unless we give you a dedicated non-proxied SIP hostname. Use the PBX host or IP from your welcome email.

Network checklist

Check Why
ATA gets IPv4 from DHCP or static Web UI + SIP
UDP 5060 outbound to LA PBX Registration
RTP (media) allowed outbound Two-way audio
Optional: DHCP reservation by MAC Stable http://… admin URL
Power + internet Same dependency as any VoIP / old Vonage box

Home vs office

Use Pattern
Home One Desk Voice seat · OBi + cordless · optional PayG + Bare DID or PSTN add-on
Small office Office Voice (multi-seat) · OBi on lobby analog · Cisco MPP on desks · shared DID options in cart
Mixed Same PBX — dial extension-to-extension between OBi and Cisco

Search rates and fund outbound: We Have Competitive Rates! · Pay as you go is for burning minutes at those published retail prices (wholesale × 2).

Factory reset (when the password is lost)

  1. Power on.
  2. Hold Reset (pinhole) about 10–15 seconds until reboot.
  3. Wait for DHCP.
  4. Open http://NEW_IP/ — default login is often admin / admin.
  5. Program SP1 only for LightningArrows; leave GV off.

Test plan (after Registered)

Dial Expect
