How we built LightningArrows Voice
This is the real path we used in 2026 — not a brochure rewrite.
1. Start with a real phone, not a slide deck
We put a Cisco CP-8851 on a normal residential LAN and took it all the way to Registered + ringing + wallpaper:
| Setting | Example shape |
|---|---|
| IP | Static or reserved DHCP (192.168.x.y) |
| Mask / gateway | Match the LAN |
| DNS | Router / public DNS |
| Web UI | https://PHONE_IP |
| Firmware | 3PCC/MPP (sip88xx) — E2M unlock when the set starts enterprise |
| SIP | Desk extension registered to the LA PBX |
| PSTN | DID + trunk; optional Google Voice forward to the DID for inbound tests |
| UI | Full-screen Download Picture wallpaper (HTTPS JPEG, ~800×480) |
MPP/3PCC firmware matters: it speaks standard SIP, so it can register to an open PBX — not only legacy CUCM.
Details: Cisco 8851 field demo · Bolt-in guide.
Enterprise-only sets need conversion first: Enterprise → MPP · E2M field path.
2. Use the same workstation discipline as cloud
LightningArrows ops verifies handsets on a customer-style LAN, separate from public cloud NICs. Voice followed that habit:
- Discover the phone on the local network
- Read status over HTTPS (registration + picture download status)
- Document MAC, serial, firmware in operator notes
- Keep consumer docs in plain language with placeholders only
If you buy Voice, you do not need any internal ops tooling — you only need Ethernet and the provision sheet we send after checkout.
3. Decide what Google Voice is (and is not)
Many people (including us) already have a Google Voice number. In 2026:
| Use Google Voice for | Do not use it for |
|---|---|
| Texts / app calling | Native SIP on a Cisco desk phone |
| Temporary forward to a SIP DID (SMS verify on the DID) | Unofficial “GV SIP gateways” |
Solid plan: LightningArrows Voice owns the desk-phone registration. Forward or port your existing number onto the DID. Forward + SMS verify + ring-through is a supported test pattern on MPP desks.
4. Product layer on LightningArrows cloud
Raw “install FreePBX yourself” is DIY. Voice is the product packaging:
SIP phone → LA edge (NAT-aware SIP) → PBX core on LA cloud → carrier / DID + e911

portal / provision after Snipcart order
Same company that already sells:
- Cloud from $0.25/day
- Domains
- Checkout via Snipcart
…now sells Desk Voice at that same entry price.
5. Price it like Basic cloud on purpose
| Product | Monthly | Daily |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud Basic | $7.50 | $0.25 |
| Voice Desk | $7.50 | $0.25 |
You can stack them or start with Voice alone (bring your own phone).
6. What we ship to the customer
After order:
- Confirm e911 service address
- Issue SIP credentials and/or MPP provision URL
- Optional DID / port coordination
- Point you at the bolt-in guide
7. What we refuse to ship
- Unofficial Google Voice SIP scrapers
- Open relays that enable toll fraud
- “Works on my softphone only” as the only path
- Silent failure on emergency calling
